THIS IS SWAGPOP: Cher Lloyd

The first thing most people want to know about Cher Lloyd is, ‘What does the music sound like?’ Then it’s ‘What’s she really like?’ To kill the proverbial bird with the proverbial stone, it/ she is dynamic, determined, funny, outspoken, totally inimitable, incredibly astute and really very enjoyable to spend time with. Creating an album that quite brilliantly yet succinctly defines her multi-faceted personality, the as-yet-untitled debut delivers on both upbeat pop smashes and punchy urban panache.

The diverse and imaginative album features collaborations with Busta Rhymes, Mike Posner and new British rapper Dot Rotten. She has also worked with acclaimed writer/ producer Max Martin (Britney Spears, Pink) and established hitmakers including The Runners (Rick Ross, Rihanna), Kevin Rudolph (Lil Wayne, Timbaland), RedOne (Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger), as well as Emelie Sandé, who has written with Professor Green and Wiley

“Each and every track is different; it’s just a massive amount of variety,” Cher decides. “It’s like I’ve got a music box and there’s wild things popping out all over the place. You could describe it as ‘Swag Pop’, but I’d also describe it as ‘Grit-Ya-Teeth’ as well,” she laughs.

Cher Lloyd – Sticks + Stones is available in music stores nationwide, for only Php430, exclusively under Ivory Music & Video, the licensee of Sony Music in the Philippines. After igniting the Saturday Night Live stage earlier this month, Karmin’s single "Brokenhearted" has infiltrated Top 40 Radio becoming the most added song nationwide. The song, which People magazine calls, “An infectious pop confection..,” was co-written by Karmin’s Amy Heidmann and Nick Noonan. Karmin are slowly unveiling surprises over the next couple of months including TV performances, features splashed across the pages of NYLON, ELLE, Teen Vogue, YRB and more leading up to the “swag pop” duos debut music release Hello out now.

MTV says that, "Brokenhearted" kicks off with a fat, bouncy beat and soulfully sung verse,” while Teen Vogue raves, “Don’t let the title fool you—‘Brokenhearted’ is as upbeat as they come with Karmin’s signature fast-paced rhymes and a catchy hook” and NYLON calls it, “perky, irresistibly addictive, and way happier than the title suggests.” Billboard is already boasting that their debut release will be one to keep a close eye on as reigning supreme this year. Karmin took the internet by storm last year after posting a cover of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” on YouTube. The clip instantly went viral and became one of YouTube’s most viewed videos of 2011. The duo has since racked up almost 200 million views for their videos.

“Until now, we are in disbelief that our song topped the OPM Top 20 of Philippine Music Charts. The clamor for our song on television, radio, and most especially in social media is just overwhelming,” says Anjo.

Composed by singer-songwriter Myrus, “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo” was initially released as part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Program. It was eventually picked up by various Metro Manila radio stations and eventually became the official sound track of the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4. Likewise, the ballad was likewise hailed as one of the most downloaded songs today by www.mymusicstore.com.ph and was included in the weekly Pinoy MYX Countdown.

As testament to its popularity, 1:43’s first hit song became background music for various televisions shows including Gandang Gabi Vice, KrisTV, and The Buzz of ABSCBN and Party Pilipinas, Together Forever, and Walang Tulugan in GMA 7.

Aside from delivering the most memorable song of the first half of the year, the boys of 1:43 are happy to have received two nominations from the prestigious Awit Awards for the “Best New Group” and “Best Christmas Song” categories. Too, its member Anjo was named as one of the finalists in the MYX VJ Search.

THREE EMERGING FILIPINO ARTISTS LEAD SINGAPORE CONCERT

THREE emerging Filipino artists—a singer-composer, a boy band, and an acoustic princess—were chosen to lead one of the biggest Filipino independence day celebrations in the island state of Singapore this June.

The sentimental prince of Philippine music Myrus, foremost Filipino boy band 1:43, and acoustic artist Princess Velasco will be performing their latest hits, as well as covers of popular Original Pilipino Music (OPM), in a rare musical festival titled “Philippines: One World Concert 2012” on June 10 at The Coliseum of the posh Hard Rock Hotel in Resorts World, Singapore.

“Our three banner talents namely Myrus, 1:43 and Princess Velasco represent the next wave of global Filipino artists. Their songs showcase how comparable OPM is to the music of the world,” says Singaporean director Jaden Zanders of Jaz-E Entertainment, the concert organizer.

The concert aims to attract the three artists’ growing fan base in Singapore—including the OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) population—and in the rest of Southeast Asia.

“We expect a lot of Singaporeans to watch the show. We heard that there are even Malaysian and Indonesian fans that are flying here and buying tickets just to see them,” adds Zanders.

Gold Record singer-composer Myrus recently released his second all-original album titled “Wanted” under Viva Records featuring his radio and YouTube hit “Pusong Lito.” He is an Awit Awards nominee for Best New Male Recording Artist in 2010, an ASAP 24K Awardee in 2009, and the head of an OPM advocacy program called “Tunog Natin.”

Myrus’ latest single “Pusong Lito” has gained a great deal of following online; it also became No. 1 in many radio stations in Greater Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Lucena, Cagayan de Oro, and Cotabato. The song’s rising popularity was aided by its initial release in over 450 Mang Inasal stores, as part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Campaign.

The OPM pop heartthrobs of 1:43, composed of Anjo Resurreccion, Gold Aquino, Kim Nicolas, and Yuki Sakamoto, have delivered the biggest love song of the season with their radio and YouTube monster hit song “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo.” The song is also a part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Campaign and was composed by Myrus.

“Sa Isang Sulyap Mo,” one of the soundtracks of the top-rating Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Teen Edition 4 in ABS-CBN, has been topping the charts of most radio stations nationwide as well as in the Pinoy Myx Countdown. Its official music video and its reposts as well as lyrics videos have garnered over five million Youtube views so far. Likewise, it is one of the best-selling OPM songs online today according to mymusicstore.com.ph.

Meanwhile, Vicor Music’s Princess Velasco is one of the most brilliant acoustic artists today. With gold record albums under her name, she is a regular member of the group “Sessionistas” in the Sunday variety show ASAP in ABS-CBN.

Filipino fans are encouraged to support these three emerging, acclaimed Filipino artists as they showcase OPM to Asia and the world, in a concert that celebrates the Filipinos’ fervor for freedom and Filipino musical artistry.
